8-week general course

About this course

The course introduces coiling, slab building and pinch-pot construction, alongside up to two days at the potter’s wheel. Wheel sessions cover centring clay and forming a basic shape. Participants also use coloured slips for surface decoration and learn to glaze pieces between firings. In the later weeks, they develop an individual project with teacher guidance, working through stages from forming and decorating to finishing.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginner and intermediate potters, with no previous experience required. Its range of introductory techniques may suit learners developing their foundations, while experienced potters can discuss particular skills they would like to focus on.

Before you go

• An apron should be brought, and clay may make clothing messy
• Short nails and tied-back hair are recommended
• Tools needed for the workshop are available for use
• Studio glazes are included
• Finished pieces are expected to be ready for collection about five weeks after the course, with notification sent by email
