About this course

The course focuses exclusively on throwing on the pottery wheel. Guided exercises introduce efficient, even cylinders alongside footed bowls, plates and lidded vessels, with further instruction in repetition throwing, pulling handles and forming lips. An introduction to glazing and surface decoration is also included. As the course progresses, participants develop their own projects at the wheel and can raise questions about their work. Teaching takes place in a small group, allowing guidance to be adapted to individual development.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to all abilities and is aimed particularly at developing beginners’ wheel-throwing skills. Early guided exercises are followed by more individual project work, with opportunities to ask specific questions about personal development.

Before you go

• Participants can glaze their work for collection.
• If they choose to continue practising at the wheel instead, pieces may be bisque fired for collection.
• Optional drop-in sessions provide additional studio time outside class hours.
