About this course
The course introduces the accordion’s main features and playing method, including bellows control, posture, chord-button layout, keyboard skills and basic music theory. Learners work towards simple right-hand exercises, left-hand bass and chord patterns, and combining both hands to play short tunes. Teaching combines demonstrations and explanations with playing activities undertaken individually, in pairs and in groups.

Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for absolute beginners starting to learn piano or chromatic button accordion. Participation includes individual playing as well as work in pairs and groups, and learners are expected to practise between sessions.
- Suitable for learners with no prior accordion experience
- Requires willingness to practise between sessions
Before you go
- Learners need an accordion, notebook and pencil.
- One accordion is available to borrow during class while trying the course; an own instrument is required on full enrolment.
- Instruments with 24, 32 or 48 bass are preferable. A 12-bass instrument can be used with some adjustments.
