Aural Training and Musicianship 2A

About this course

The course develops aural musicianship through work on intervals, rhythms, scales and chords. Class activities include sight singing, relative solfa using moveable doh, clapping, active listening and writing down musical examples heard in class. Learners examine melodic shape and structure, practise recognising and constructing chords in major and minor keys, and explore how chords accompany melodies. The course also includes short-term memory work and requires study or completion of activities outside class.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with music theory knowledge at approximately ABRSM Grade 3 level or equivalent, together with some familiarity with relative solfa, tonic solfa or moveable doh. Participation involves singing, writing, listening and clapping, as well as work outside class.
