About this course

The course develops aural musicianship through practical class exercises centred on singing, clapping, movement and listening. Learners work with relative solfa, transcribe melodies and rhythms, examine key relationships and tonal structure, and read scores to identify significant musical features. Continued study of new repertoire supports work in sight singing and transcription, while musical analysis forms part of the wider course content. There is no mandatory homework, although practising the material between classes is described as beneficial.

Is this course right for you?

This advanced course is intended for learners with established aural and music-theory skills rather than those starting from fundamentals. The source specifies fluency with relative pitch, accurate vocal pitching, and a good working knowledge of scales and chords. Classes require active participation in singing, movement, clapping and listening, with practice between sessions encouraged.

• Previous aural training at Solfa Level 3 or equivalent Grade 6 theory skills are identified as suitable preparation
