About this course
This introductory course develops the foundations of cello playing. Learners work on bow handling, left-hand position and fingering in first position, while exploring relaxed posture and natural playing technique. They also learn to read bass clef and develop aural skills for playing alone and with others. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing, individual practice, class discussion and theoretical study. The course introduces general cello maintenance, insurance and travel considerations alongside practical musicianship.
