About this course

The course introduces experimental animation through examples from historical and contemporary practitioners, alongside exploration of drawing, assemblage, pixilation, 3D forms and found images. Participants develop animated sequences using stop-motion processes, DSLR capture and Dragonframe, then combine and refine clips in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Teaching combines short lectures, demonstrations, workshops, practical exercises, tutorials, hand-outs and both group and individual guidance. The course also covers exporting finished sequences in formats suitable for online or gallery exhibition.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for beginners in experimental animation who are engaged in, or aware of, fine art practice. It includes practical exercises, demonstrations and tutorials, with opportunities for both group and individual assistance. Basic computer experience, including managing files and opening and saving applications and documents, is expected.

  • Some awareness of fine art practice is expected.
  • Basic experience navigating computer files and applications is expected.

Before you go

  • Professional equipment and software are available for use during the course, including Apple Mac computers.
  • A memory stick or portable hard drive would be useful. PC-formatted hard drives can be read by Apple Mac computers but not written to.
