About this course

The course develops foundational clarinet playing, including breathing, articulation, dynamics, expression markings and fingering for common notes. Learners work on pitch, rhythm, pulse and basic music notation while playing repertoire ranging from classical to jazz. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with individual and group playing, aural skills, theoretical study and class discussion. Sessions also introduce simple improvisation and ensemble work, alongside practice on several straightforward tunes.

Is this course right for you?

This course is designed for absolute beginners and does not require previous musical or clarinet knowledge. Learners will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and take part in class discussions. Regular practice outside class is recommended to support the work covered in sessions.
