About this course

The course develops clarinet technique through work on breathing, articulation, fingering and tone, alongside more complex rhythmic notation and repertoire around Grade 3/4 standard. Learners explore music from early music, classical, jazz and popular styles, including solo playing and musical interpretation. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing, individual playing, aural skills, theoretical study and class discussion. Ensemble work includes arrangements in three or four parts, with opportunities to sight-read and play under the tutor’s guidance.
