About this course
The course introduces fingerstyle guitar through techniques such as single-note playing, free stroke and rest stroke. Participants work with basic chord shapes, selected major and minor scales, arpeggio sequences and simple repertoire drawn from Spanish, 19th-century, South American and popular melodies. Learning also covers reading music notation, basic music theory, playing short phrases by ear, introductory composition and simple improvisation. Materials, audio and video resources are shared through Google Classroom alongside participants’ own postings.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for complete beginners and does not require previous guitar knowledge or experience. Participation involves developing fundamental playing, reading and listening skills through the course’s exercises, repertoire and introductory improvisation work.

- Participants must bring their own nylon-strung guitar.
- Music materials are supplied by the tutor.
