Classical Guitar 1A

About this course

The course develops foundational classical guitar technique alongside simple repertoire, music reading and basic theory. Learners work on posture, left- and right-hand technique, rhythmic values, phrasing and tone, with repertoire broadly aligned to Trinity College Grade One requirements. Teaching includes solo and multi-part ensemble playing, class discussion and music study using resources such as recordings, online videos and suitable mobile applications. Learners also develop familiarity with reading and interpreting simple musical notation.

• Demonstrate suitable posture using a footstool or guitar support
• Apply effective left- and right-hand classical guitar technique
• Play several classical-style melodies with appropriate tone and phrasing
• Identify crotchet, quaver, minim and semibreve note and rest values
• Perform classical ensemble pieces in several parts
