Classical guitar 2A

About this course

The course develops guitar technique through melody playing, free stroke, rest stroke, chord accompaniment, arpeggios and selected effects including tambora, harmonics and pizzicato. Participants also work on chord construction, octave transposition, scales and a small amount of improvisation. Repertoire includes classical, Spanish, Baroque, Renaissance and popular music arrangements, with both solo and ensemble playing. Teaching combines shared practice, reading guitar pieces, tutor demonstrations, individual coaching and guided listening.

What you'll learn

• Read guitar notation above the fifth fret
• Play simple melodies with harmonic accompaniment
• Perform two-octave E, C and G scales
• Play a three-octave chromatic scale in varied rhythms
• Use chord shapes, arpeggios and selected guitar effects
• Perform solo and ensemble pieces

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for improvers who have completed Classical Guitar Level 1 or reached an equivalent playing standard. Learners are expected to read notation reasonably fluently to at least the fifth fret and have established scale, melody and chord techniques. Sessions combine shared practice, individual coaching and ensemble playing.
