Early British History – Part 1 – Plantagenet Rule (1154-1485)

About this course

The course surveys Plantagenet England from the establishment of the dynasty through the reigns of Henry II, Richard I, John, Henry III, Edward I and their successors, ending with Richard III and the Battle of Bosworth Field. Topics include Magna Carta, the development of Parliament, the Crusades, the Hundred Years’ War, the Black Death and the Wars of the Roses. Teaching combines tutor presentations, discussion, analysis of historical sources and consideration of differing historians’ interpretations. Wider reading and documentary recommendations are provided for study outside class.
