Foreign affairs in modern British politics

About this course

The course examines how the UK has managed relationships with the United States, Europe, countries in the Far East and the Middle East. Topics include conflict, trade, European integration and Brexit, post-colonial relationships, China and Hong Kong, and conflicts involving the Middle East. Through lectures and discussion, participants consider both immediate and longer-term effects on the UK, including consequences for political parties and governments. The course also explores continuity and change in British foreign policy up to the present government. There is no formal assessment.
