About this course

The course explores how improvisers create believable scenes through agreement, listening, spontaneity and shared focus. Participants work on establishing locations and environments with mime, introducing characters, using entrances and shared activities, and identifying relationships through emotional connection. Further work examines truthful behaviour in imaginary circumstances, drawing on personal experience, expressing feelings, and replacing forced attempts at humour with clear, realistic choices. The course also covers status, power dynamics, character objectives, emotional escalation, and finding character through physical and emotional changes.

What you'll learn

  • Apply agreement, listening and “Yes And” principles in improvisation
  • Establish locations, objects and environments through physical action and mime
  • Create spontaneous characters using emotional and physical changes
  • Explore relationships, status and power dynamics within scenes
  • Use truthful behaviour, personal experience and emotional responses in imaginary situations

Is this course right for you?
