About this course

This course traces developments in Irish history from the introduction of Christianity through the growth of monasteries and missionary activity, the arrival of the Vikings, and political, religious, educational and sporting life before the English invasion. It concludes with Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf. Six lectures provide the main teaching format, with discussion and debate around the influences of Britain and continental Europe on Irish identity, and comparisons between cultural identity in Ireland and Britain.
