About this course
This workshop focuses on preparing metal for flush setting, creating a stone seat with setting burrs, and securing round faceted stones by burnishing the surrounding metal. Learners practise on setting samples and small projects, using specialist tools in a workshop environment. Tutor demonstrations are followed by practical exercises, with individual guidance and feedback. The course also covers finishing methods and group discussion of best practice and troubleshooting, and remains focused exclusively on round faceted stones.

Listed at Beginner level, the course is intended for learners who are new to flush setting and does not require previous stone-setting experience. Basic jewellery-making experience, including sawing, filing and finishing metal, is helpful but not stated as essential. Participation involves demonstrations, detailed bench work with small hand tools, individual practice and group discussion.

- Good eyesight or suitable magnification is recommended for the detailed setting work.
Before you go
- Bring a notebook and pen for recording techniques and notes.

- An apron and personal jewellery tools may be brought, but both are optional.
