About this course

The course focuses on two ring styles: the signet and Edwardian Bombe. Participants examine their histories, plan designs on paper, size and shape wax tubes, then carve, hollow and refine the wax models. Set projects provide a starting point, while personal variations and independent ideas are also accommodated. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations and examples with staged individual work. The course covers transferring designs to wax, developing the forms and preparing them for casting, followed by cleaning and finishing cast rings where applicable.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for beginners and explicitly requires no previous experience. Participants work individually on two ring projects, using set designs as a starting point or developing their own ideas through planning and wax carving.

Before you go

• All tools and wax are provided.
• Bring a pen, pencil and paper; an apron is useful.
• Casting is arranged externally and incurs an additional cost if learners choose to proceed. Learners may instead continue developing their designs in wax and make their own casting arrangements.
