About this course

The course examines vintage hat shapes associated with 1930s and 1940s fashion, using films from the period as visual reference. Participants can make reproduction designs or develop contemporary hats influenced by these styles. Teaching combines demonstrations, whole-class instruction, technical discussion and individual guidance. Projects may use blocked felt or flat felt cut patterns, with attention to construction, suitable trims and period finishing techniques. Sustainability is addressed through reducing waste, recycling and upcycling materials.

What you'll learn

  • Develop hat designs influenced by vintage styles
  • Block felt or create patterns using appropriate construction methods
  • Select and apply trims and materials suited to historical periods
  • Finish hats using professional techniques associated with vintage millinery
