About this course

Learners work at individual weighted digital keyboards while following tutor explanations and demonstrations. The course combines personal playing with opportunities to play alongside classmates, perform for the tutor, listen to others and discuss musical work. Study includes five-finger patterns, chords, simple pieces, aural exercises and music theory. Learners also practise reading and writing pitch and rhythm patterns, identify keys across the keyboard, and use digital resources such as recordings, videos and music applications where appropriate.

What you'll learn

  • Demonstrate sound posture and hand position at the piano
  • Play five-finger exercises, simple melodies and chords
  • Read, write and play basic pitch and rhythmic patterns
  • Identify and name the keys on a keyboard
