About this course
Learners work at individual weighted digital keyboards while following tutor explanations and demonstrations. The course combines personal playing with opportunities to play alongside classmates, perform for the tutor, listen to others and discuss musical work. Study includes five-finger patterns, chords, simple pieces, aural exercises and music theory. Learners also practise reading and writing pitch and rhythm patterns, identify keys across the keyboard, and use digital resources such as recordings, videos and music applications where appropriate.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for absolute beginners with no stated prior piano experience. Participation includes individual playing, playing with classmates, listening, group discussion and contributing to discussions in English. Learners should be prepared to practise regularly between classes.

Before you go
- Learners need access to an acoustic or digital piano outside class.
- The course expects practice of at least 10 to 15 minutes, at least four times a week.
- Bring a notebook, pencil, eraser and manuscript paper for music notation.
- The recommended text is Adult Piano Adventures All-in-One Book 1 by Faber; other materials are supplied by the tutor.
- Headphones are provided, although learners are encouraged to bring their own.
- Learners should maintain good posture and take regular breaks to stretch and relax.
