About this course

The course develops control across the keyboard through work on dynamics, articulation and hand coordination, including contrasting legato and staccato playing. Learners study repertoire while discussing technical difficulties, musical style and performance approaches, alongside practice strategies and extended theoretical work. Scales and arpeggios are studied in selected major and minor keys as part of the Level 4 sequence. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing and individual demonstration tasks, supported by materials and homework shared through Google Classroom.

What you'll learn

  • Perform at least three pieces from the class repertoire
  • Use gradual dynamic changes in performance
  • Play major and minor scales appropriate to the course level
  • Coordinate contrasting articulations between the hands
  • Apply technical exercises to address playing difficulties
  • Develop structured strategies for practising repertoire
