About this course

The course develops piano and keyboard technique through Grade 4 repertoire, with some preparation for Grade 5 material. Classes address dynamic control, articulation, coordination, style, performance skills and strategies for establishing an effective practice routine. Technical work includes major and minor scales and arpeggios played hands together. Musicianship is developed through keyboard harmony, aural awareness and relevant music theory. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing and individual performance tasks, supported by materials and homework shared through Google Classroom.

  • Apply gradual dynamics and contrasting legato and staccato articulation
  • Play selected major and minor scales over three octaves with hands together
  • Perform arpeggios in the specified keys over two octaves with hands together
