About this course

The course develops a strong, expressive singing voice through warm-ups, breathing exercises, song sharing and performance practice. Learners explore jazz repertoire, including lyric interpretation, phrasing, rhythmic feel, arrangements and harmony, while working on vocal range, tone, flexibility and control. Sessions also address microphone technique, repertoire selection, stage fright, musicianship and the conventions of jazz singing. Practice includes both solo and group work, with improvisation and interpretation forming part of the course. Daily singing practice is expected outside class.
