What Advanced (C1+) Spanish means
At C1+ Spanish, learners can express complex ideas precisely, understand nuance and adapt their language to different contexts.
Qualify an argument
Si bien el argumento resulta convincente en términos generales, pasa por alto varias consecuencias imprevistas.
While the argument is broadly convincing, it overlooks several unintended consequences.
Convey nuance
No me opongo a la propuesta en sí; lo que cuestiono es la forma precipitada de aplicarla.
I do not oppose the proposal itself; what I question is the rushed way it is being implemented.
Adapt your register
Le agradecería que reconsiderara la decisión a la luz de la información adicional adjunta.
I would be grateful if you would reconsider the decision in light of the additional information attached.
These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.
About this course
Sessions use contemporary and everyday subjects, including culture, travel, current affairs, work, lifestyle, personal experiences, film, music and the Spanish-speaking world. Learning is centred on conversation rather than traditional grammar lessons, with debates and opinion-based discussions providing opportunities to express humour, opinions and nuance. The course also addresses vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, natural phrasing and comprehension of different Spanish accents, helping participants move away from translating directly from English.
What you'll learn
- Use a broader range of Spanish vocabulary and idiomatic expressions
- Express opinions, humour and subtle distinctions in Spanish
- Speak with greater spontaneity in discussions
- Recognise and understand different Spanish accents
- Use more natural Spanish phrasing rather than translating directly from English
Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for learners who have completed B2 or above and can already communicate comfortably in Spanish. The C1+ label indicates an advanced level, with participation focused on extended conversation, debates and discussion of opinions and experiences.
