The Stalin Regime: 1928-1941

About this course

The course examines how Stalin’s regime was established and how it reshaped Soviet society, the economy and culture during the 1930s. It also considers the regime’s use of violence, changes in its methods over time, and the extent to which Stalin personally shaped Stalinism. Teaching combines short lectures with class discussion and debate. Learners will also analyse primary sources and complete preparatory reading before each class.
