About this course
This study group examines jazz recordings from different periods and styles, using selected solos as material for close listening, transcription and analysis. Participants discuss the musical and technical features they identify, then work on applying those ideas to their own solos. The course combines guided study with shared observations, individual transcription and focused practice on techniques encountered in the music. Recordings and tunes may be suggested for the group, while participants can also make their own selections.
