About this course

The course introduces clay preparation and hand-building techniques, with participants making their own pieces. It also includes a session on the potter’s wheel, where learners practise centring clay and forming a basic shape.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners and can also accommodate learners with some or substantial clay-making experience. Experienced potters can discuss specific skills they would like to focus on with the teacher at the first session.

• No previous experience is required
• Suitable for learners from beginner to intermediate level
• Experienced potters may identify specific areas for focus

Before you go

• Bring an apron; clay can be messy.
• Short nails and tied-back hair are recommended.
• All tools needed for the workshop are available.
• Glazing in the studio’s glazes is included.
• Fired clay is charged at £5 plus VAT per kilogram.
• There is a maximum of one plate or wide piece up to 25cm in diameter, and all pieces must be no more than 25cm high.
• Finished pieces are available for collection about five weeks after the course. The clay-firing charge must be paid before collection.
