About this course

The course focuses exclusively on wheel work, with practice in centring clay and throwing cylinders, cups and bowls. Participants also learn to pull and attach handles, trim and turn pieces, and finish selected work with slip and sgraffito. Early sessions introduce wedging, studio safety and equipment, while later sessions concentrate on refining forms and preparing pots for firing. Teaching is structured around repeated practice of each technique, with time to develop work before the firing stages.

What you'll learn

  • Prepare clay for throwing by wedging
  • Centre clay on the wheel
  • Throw cylinders, cups and bowls
  • Pull and attach handles
  • Trim and turn thrown pieces
  • Decorate pots using slip and sgraffito

  • Every session is devoted to wheel work
