Acting: Foundation (Certificate Level 2)

About this course

The course develops core drama training through Stanislavskian methodology, naturalism, emotional recall, movement and voice technique, alongside study of contemporary plays. Participants apply these approaches to text and scene work, including physical characterisation and use of space. Teaching combines individual exercises with small-group and ensemble practice. Work culminates in a presentation of scenes to an invited audience, with some course work filmed for assessment and accreditation purposes.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level actors developing beyond fundamental training. The provider ideally expects applicants to have completed beginners’ and improvers’ acting courses, or to have comparable experience, although entry is determined through audition. Participation includes individual work, small-group exercises and ensemble activity, with some rigorous physical work and preparation outside class.

• Entry is through an audition requiring a contemporary monologue of up to two minutes
• Regular attendance and punctuality are described as essential
• Some homework is required, including line-learning and reading around course topics
• Consider whether rigorous physical activity is suitable before enrolling

Before you go

• Loose black clothing is required for all sessions.
• Participants must borrow or purchase five principal textbooks.
• Notepaper and a pen are required at each session.
• Audition applicants should prepare a published contemporary-play monologue, written within the last 20 years, of no more than two minutes.
