An Introduction to Working With Stained Glass

About this course

Learners examine stained glass examples before receiving demonstrations of pattern design, glass and lead cutting, panel construction and soldering. They first make a small panel to practise the techniques, then design and produce a second panel during the rest of the course. Teaching combines group instruction with individual guidance at different stages, including advice on using glass colour and texture within a design.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for complete beginners and for learners with some previous knowledge who want further guidance or practice. Most processes involve standing, so participants should be able to take part in predominantly standing-based studio work.

Before you go

• Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn; open sandals are not suitable.
• Bring an apron.
• A4 sketchbook or notebook, pencils, coloured pencils or pens, and a marker pen may be useful.
• Safety equipment is provided, with health and safety guidance given during the course.
• Glass, lead and solder for the second panel are available in class at cost price after the initial small panel.
• The studio is on the third floor and has lift access.
