About this course
The course traces the Poll Tax from its origins and introduction in Scotland, England and Wales through to the growth of local and national resistance. It examines the 1990 Battle of Trafalgar Square in detail, then considers the tax’s failed implementation, political consequences and longer-term legacy. Teaching combines tutor presentation with participant discussion and debate, including critical consideration of the tax’s political, social and economic impact.
