About this course
This masterclass examines Chianti Classico as a diverse fine-wine region rather than a single style. It covers the appellation’s history, the significance of the Black Rooster, Sangiovese’s role in Tuscany and the characteristics of its 11 official geographical units. The session uses a tasting of seven wines to illustrate the region’s range, moving from classic Chianti Classico to three Gran Selezione examples. Discussion includes the production standards, ageing requirements and estate-level focus associated with Gran Selezione.
