Clothes Making for Improvers to Advance

About this course

Participants develop an individual garment project, either bringing an existing project or beginning a new one. The course introduces more advanced construction and sewing techniques, with teaching delivered through demonstrations, discussions, workshop practice and one-to-one guidance. Learners can work towards completing a toile or final garment, supported by ongoing assessment and individual progress records. Group discussions are also included, and the course states that all work can be completed during class.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for improvers working beyond basic sewing techniques. Learners should already understand pattern reading, taking measurements and basic machine sewing, and be able to follow written and spoken instructions and carry out simple measurements and calculations.

Before you go

• Bring a clothing pattern, practice fabric, final fabric, thread and all other project supplies and materials.
• Participants are expected to provide their own project equipment, including a tape measure, paper scissors, pencil, rubber, sharpener, glue, Sellotape, A4 ring binder, plastic wallets, notebook and biro.
• Pattern notchers, a tracing wheel and a French curve or set square are listed as optional equipment.
