Draw and Paint from the Figure and Still Life - 28th September 2026

About this course

Participants work from dynamic and set figure poses as well as organic and inorganic still-life subjects. The course examines proportion, scale, form and composition, with attention to conveying light, colour and tone through traditional and experimental drawing and painting techniques. Acrylics, oils and mixed media are suitable. Teaching combines demonstrations, individual tuition and collective discussion of work, allowing learners to develop observational approaches across different subjects and media.

The course welcomes enthusiastic beginners as well as learners with art experience. Its beginner level suggests an introduction to core observational approaches, while the combination of demonstrations, one-to-one tuition and collective discussion supports varied levels of prior experience.

Before you go

• Participants must provide their own materials, including willow charcoal, soft pencils from 2B to 9B, erasers, paints, pastels and an A5 or A4 sketchbook.
• Further materials advice is provided in the first session.
• Some oil-painting chemicals may be harmful; the tutor will advise on safe handling.
• The studio has lift access.
