Emerging personal and professional practice: ceramics studio workshop

About this course

Participants plan and develop a ceramics project over several weeks, testing ideas and making decisions about materials, techniques and processes. The workshop combines individual project work with group discussion, critique and reflection on how other artists work. Learners refine their pieces through repeated making and revision, with attention to developing a coherent body of work. The course also covers discussing artistic ideas, influences and next steps, and preparing work for presentation, small-scale sales, further study or employment.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for Improver-level learners developing beyond fundamental techniques and ready to take greater responsibility for a ceramics project. Participation includes individual work alongside group discussion, critique and reflection on artistic approaches.

• The project is self-directed rather than based on producing a large batch of work
• Learners are expected to respond to feedback and revise their work
• The course supports continued development through Terms B and C
