French Film ciné-club (Autumn)

About this course

The course examines French cinema through a changing selection of feature films spanning different periods, directors and styles. Films are screened in full, with an introductory presentation followed by discussion in a large group. Alongside close analysis of individual works, sessions consider the historical development of film form, visual style, film spectatorship and theoretical approaches to cinema. The programme may include films such as Le jour se lève, Casque d’or, Contempt, Sans soleil and Timbuktu, although the final selection depends on availability.
