About this course

The course develops core mathematical knowledge through interactive lessons, practice exercises and assessments. Topics include operations with integers, fractions and decimals, alongside geometry, measures, shapes, angles, perimeter, area and volume. Learners also practise reasoning through mathematical problems and improve the written language needed to interpret and answer word problems. Online tools, including MS Teams and related websites, are used to access assignments, lesson resources, video tutorials and quizzes.

  • Apply addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to integers, fractions and decimals.
  • Use properties of shapes, angles, perimeter, area and volume in geometry and measurement problems.
  • Apply mathematical reasoning and problem-solving methods to a range of challenges.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners preparing to progress to GCSE Maths Higher who have demonstrable experience in maths and are ready to engage with challenging study. Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or Key Stage 3 education is generally expected, although no specific prior qualification is usually required. Participation includes interactive lessons, practice and assessments.

  • Learners are expected to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Study outside class is required, including homework using an internet-connected device.
  • The course is aimed at learners considering progression to a GCSE Maths programme.

Before you go

  • Bring pens, pencils, erasers and a sharpener, or a tablet and e-pen.
  • Bring a suitable calculator complying with exam-board regulations. A Casio FX-85GTX, FX-83GTX or similar model is recommended.
  • Bring a maths or geometry set including a compass and protractor.
  • Bring an exercise book or notebook for maths work.
  • Access to an internet-connected device is needed for homework.
