Introduction to pattern cutting I

About this course

Participants learn to take body measurements, apply sizing and ease, read pattern markings and draft a classic dress block. They then use the block to develop a dress design, transferring it into a pattern and producing a calico toile for group feedback. Teaching combines demonstrations, discussions, workshop practice and one-to-one guidance. The course also covers the use of pattern-cutting tools and equipment, with learners able to complete the practical work during class.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners and introduces the fundamental stages of dress pattern cutting. Some clothesmaking experience may be beneficial, but the course also accommodates learners developing their skills through demonstrations and guided workshop practice. Participants should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, use numbers and carry out basic measurements and calculations.
