About this course
The course explores mounts for cabochon and cut stones, including claw, tube, bezel and French collet settings. Participants practise preparing settings, placing stones and incorporating the results into a jewellery piece of their own design. Teaching combines demonstrations, photographic examples, hand-outs and guidance throughout the making process. The course focuses on developing stone-setting techniques within existing jewellery-making skills, rather than introducing jewellery making from the beginning.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for jewellers with some existing experience and is labelled Intermediate. Participants should be reasonably confident with jewellery-making skills, able to follow written and verbal guidance, take part in group discussions, and carry out simple measurements and calculations.

Before you go
- Most basic jewellery-making tools and equipment, including base metals, chemicals and sundries, are provided.
- Participants need saw blades, emery paper, two burrs, two to three stones, and silver wire, sheet and tube. These items are estimated to cost around £15, depending on the stones chosen.
- Bringing personal needle files is recommended.
- Sensible footwear is required. Sandals, open shoes and small pumps are not permitted in the studio.
