About this course
The course surveys modern Latin American literary history through prose and poetry by writers from several countries, considering the region’s literary, political and cultural diversity. Set texts include works by Borges, Machado de Assis, Silvina Ocampo, Alejo Carpentier, Augusto Monterroso, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Clarice Lispector and Roberto Bolaño. Teaching combines an interactive lecture on each text, its author, themes and context, with round-table and small-group discussion focused on detailed reading.
