About this course

Participants prepare and perform staged opera scenes in Italian, German, French and English, working on music, pronunciation, stagecraft and characterisation. Training combines group and individual sessions with vocal and language coaches, followed by rehearsals directed for the stage and final run-throughs. The course may also include specialist masterclasses, movement and stagecraft workshops, and opportunities to perform arias. Students are cast in at least two roles suited to their voice type and developmental stage, and develop their ability to work within a rehearsal process and follow a conductor.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for experienced singers with a well-developed classical vocal technique who are working towards professional-standard opera performance. Participation involves collaborative rehearsals, public staged performances and a significant commitment to the production process. Previous stage experience and familiarity with Italian, German and French pronunciation are desirable.

• Entry is through audition, with two prepared arias required
• Students must take part in the end-of-term public performances
• Regular individual singing tuition alongside the course is expected
• Attendance is required for rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances, with no more than five absences per term

• Music scores are provided by the college.
• Bring note-taking equipment.
