Stage management and technical theatre production

About this course

Participants explore the production process through practical workshops in stage management, lighting, sound, projection and multimedia. They take on negotiated production roles across rehearsals, performances and events, working with backstage and technical teams in a live setting. The course also covers prop sourcing and management, some prop and set making, filming with fixed cameras and moveable microphones, and the operation and design of lighting and sound systems. Learning is connected to real production processes, with ongoing feedback and independent work outside taught sessions.

The course is intended for London residents who are aiming for backstage, technical theatre or live-events work but are not yet working in these areas. No prior experience is needed, although learners should be prepared for full attendance, independent work outside sessions and flexible participation across technical roles.

• Black clothing suitable for backstage work is required.
