Stained Glass: Beginners, Tuesday Morning

About this course

Participants study examples and samples before designing patterns suitable for leaded-light panels. The teacher demonstrates pattern design, glass and lead cutting, panel construction and soldering, followed by guided practice on a small panel. Learners then design a second panel to develop these techniques further. Teaching combines demonstrations with work in groups and individual guidance at different stages of the process, including using colour and glass texture within a design.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as learners with some previous knowledge who want further guidance or practice. Participation involves creating individual panels, with teaching provided through demonstrations, group work and one-to-one support.

• Most processes are completed standing
• Suitable for learners developing stained-glass skills from beginner level

Before you go

• Wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers; open sandals are not suitable.
• Bring an apron.
• A sketchbook or A4 notebook, drawing implements and a marker pen may be helpful.
• Suitable safety equipment is provided, and health and safety guidance is given during the course.
• Materials for the second panel, including glass, lead and solder, are available at cost price in class.
• The studio is on the third floor and has lift access. The course is not recommended for people who are pregnant.
