The course traces the birth of Islam and the expansion of religious authority into political rule under the Umayyads and Abbasids. It considers key events in the formation of both dynasties, alongside the political significance of capitals, buildings and art. Teaching combines prepared talks with PowerPoint presentations and slide-based discussion.
