About this course

The course focuses exclusively on wheel throwing, beginning with centring clay and forming cylinders and bowls, then progressing to trimming, handles and surface decoration. Each session explores a different technique while allowing time for practice and experimentation. Teaching is aimed at both complete beginners and intermediate throwers. Learners work with stoneware clay and develop a range of wheel-based making techniques through guided instruction and repeated practice.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for complete beginners as well as intermediate throwers seeking focused wheel-throwing practice. It suits learners prepared to work through techniques progressively and experiment with clay. The first two sessions are particularly important because they are difficult to catch up on if missed.

Before you go

• All course materials, tools, slips, moulds and glazes are provided.
• Participants should wear clothes that can get dirty.
• Glazing is not taught on the course. Finished pieces can either be glazed during a separate drop-in session or glazed in the studio's gloss white glaze.
• Studio-glazed pieces can be collected 6 to 8 weeks after the course finishes.
