About this course
The course surveys writing for different age groups, covering picture-book texts, folk stories and fairy tales, animal fiction, early readers, chapter books and middle-grade fiction. Sessions combine talks illustrated with contemporary children’s books, class writing exercises, group discussion and group work. Writing craft is considered across these forms, including character, plot and dialogue, alongside an overview of the children’s publishing landscape. Learners also undertake independent reading and writing projects outside class.

Is this course right for you?
The course is open to potential writers at all levels who can write fluent English. Participation includes discussion, group work and class writing exercises, with independent reading and writing projects outside class. Learners may explore writing for different age groups rather than focusing exclusively on one category.
