About this course
This course focuses exclusively on pottery-wheel techniques for learners who already have experience centring clay and pulling cylinders. Sessions explore throwing larger quantities of clay alongside more specialised forms, including bottles, vases, lidded vessels and teapots. Repetition throwing is also included. The balance of topics may vary according to the group’s existing skills and interests, allowing the course content to be adjusted within the scope of wheel throwing.
What you'll learn
- Throw larger forms using increased amounts of clay
- Construct bottles and vases on the pottery wheel
- Develop lidded vessels and teapots
- Apply repetition-throwing techniques
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for intermediate potters who have completed at least one throwing-only course. Learners are expected to be able to centre clay confidently and pull a cylinder, so it is not designed for complete beginners. Regular attendance is important, particularly at the beginning and end of the course.
- At least one previous throwing-only course is required
- Confident centring and cylinder pulling are expected
- Learners should be able to attend as many sessions as possible
Before you go
- Learners are asked to attend the first two sessions and the final session in particular.
