518 French language classes in London

If you have never studied French, start with an absolute beginner French class, beginner French level 1 course or A1 French course. These classes are designed for adults with no previous experience and usually cover pronunciation, greetings, numbers, simple questions, essential vocabulary and the foundations of French grammar.

Choose an absolute beginner or early A1 French class if you are completely new to the language. Choose a later A1 or A2 class if you can introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions and understand familiar everyday phrases. An improver or B1 class may suit you if you can already have basic conversations but want to speak with greater fluency and accuracy.

If you studied French at school but have not used it for several years, look for a French refresher, false beginner, beginner plus, A2 or improver course. You may not need to return to an absolute beginner class if you remember common vocabulary, basic verb forms and simple questions. A level assessment can help if you are unsure how much French you still understand.

A false beginner French class is for someone who has studied a little French before but does not feel ready for an elementary or improver course. It can be a good choice if you recognise basic words and grammar but struggle to form sentences or speak confidently. It normally moves faster than an absolute beginner course while revisiting important foundations.

French has grammatical gender, verb conjugations and pronunciation patterns that can take time to master, but English and French share a large amount of vocabulary. Beginners can often start recognising written words quickly. Speaking and listening may take longer, particularly because of silent letters, connected speech and differences between written and spoken French.

Yes. Learn.London lists French conversation classes alongside structured French language courses. Conversation classes are usually best for learners who already understand some French and want to improve speaking, listening and confidence. Complete beginners will normally benefit from starting with a structured A1 course before joining a conversation-focused class.

French pronunciation classes can help with nasal vowels, the French R, silent letters, word stress, liaisons and the way words connect in natural speech. They can be particularly useful if you read French more easily than you understand or speak it. Look for courses mentioning pronunciation, phonetics, oral skills, listening or conversation.

Some London providers offer French courses designed for DELF or DALF preparation. These qualifications assess reading, writing, listening and speaking at CEFR levels ranging from A1 to C2. Choose a course that explicitly covers your intended exam level and includes practice with the relevant tasks and assessment format.

French can be useful for work involving French-speaking clients, colleagues or markets. If you need French professionally, look for courses covering business French, workplace vocabulary, meetings, presentations, emails or professional conversation. Most beginners should first establish a foundation in general French before moving to a specialist business course.

Beginner French classes can prepare you for travel in France and other French-speaking destinations. Look for practical or conversation-focused courses covering greetings, restaurants, accommodation, transport, shopping, directions and common social situations. Even an introductory course can make everyday interactions easier and more enjoyable.

Apps can support vocabulary building and regular practice, but in-person French classes provide live conversation, pronunciation correction, listening practice and explanations tailored to the learner. If your goal is to communicate confidently rather than only complete exercises, an in-person class can be a valuable complement to independent study.
