6 Week Mixed- Hand Building+Wheel Throwing – Beginner

About this course

Participants are introduced to two ceramic approaches: hand-building and wheel throwing. Sessions cover centering clay on the wheel, forming pinch pots, building with coils and combining techniques within a single piece. Work may include cups, bowls, small plates and other forms, with opportunities to make around six pieces across the course. Teaching takes place in a group of up to eight, allowing for individual guidance alongside shared studio learning. The course gives participants an overview of both methods so they can assess which approach they would like to pursue further.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for beginners and combines guided instruction with individual making in a small group. Learners will work across both hand-building and wheel throwing, with the teacher able to provide one-to-one guidance during sessions.

Before you go

• A range of glazes is available for participants to experiment with.
• Finished pieces are usually ready for collection about four weeks after the course ends, although this can sometimes take longer. The provider emails when work is ready.
• Collected work must be picked up within four weeks of the notification email; uncollected pieces may be given to charity shops because of limited storage.
• Additional time for ceramic painting can be arranged for interested participants.
