About this course
The course surveys Western architecture from Classical traditions to Post-Modernism by examining significant buildings and the stylistic changes they represent. Topics include Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-Classical and modern architecture, alongside the relationship between form and function, materials, construction processes, innovation and aesthetics. Teaching combines lectures, slide presentations, activities and group discussions. Examples are considered in relation to their social, political, religious and artistic contexts, helping learners examine how these influences shape architectural design and meaning.
